The Latest on CPSIA

August 26th, 2009

The latest ruling from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requires that products covered under the CPSIA and manufactured after August 14, 2009 have a tracking label. At this time, the requirement applies to all printed matter (including books) intended for use by children 12 years old and younger.

The purpose of the tracking label is to enable the consumer to identify the manufacturer, the location of the manufacturer, the date the product was produced (or range of time), and the batch run. The policy allows this information to be printed in common English within the book, or to use a code or numbering system provided the necessary information remains ascertainable by the consumer.

For a complete review of the CPSIA policies and guidelines for tracking labels click on the link to visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site.

Independent Publishers Cover New York

June 9th, 2009

Congratulations to IBPA (Independent Book Publishers Association) on a successful Publishing University 2009.

As a precursor to the annual Book Expo America, PubU drew a nice array of book professionals including authors, self-publishers and small to medium sized publishers. Despite the current economic times, PubU was well attended and the sessions very worthwhile and informative. And what could be more fabulous than spending time in NYC, the publishing mecca of the world?

Kudos to the IBPA staff for another successful event.

M&G EarthCare in Lean Times

April 27th, 2009

Caring for the environment is as much a part of the fabric of McNaughton & Gunn as putting ink on paper. Early on in our history, we committed to and were successful in decreasing landfill waste from 1,660 cubic yards to 120 cubic yards. Pretty much everything gets recycled that can including  paper, styrofoam, cardboard, batteries, ink cartridges, wooden skids and plastics.

To explore what more could be done in the area of waste reduction, the M&G EarthCare Team was formed. It consists of six people from various departments and backgrounds who are all dedicated to minimizing waste for the company and educating fellow team members about environmental issues. The group has been a huge component for recycling. Since its inception, dumpster waste has reduced even further from eight yards a month to six.

The Team went to work  finding sources for disposal of those difficult items such as paint cans, prescription drugs, computers and cell phones. They sponsored a Say No to CO2 week last summer and encouraged team members to walk, ride bikes, car pool and drive more efficiently.

Next we tackle water bottles. In the meantime if you’d like to learn more about the EarthCare Team and McNaughton & Gunn’s commitment go to the EarthCare portion of our web site.
