WBN 2012 – Dawn Farm

Jonnie Bryant, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at M&G delivered her books to Dawn Farm in Ypsilanti, MI. Dawn Farm provides a means for addicts and alcoholics to achieve long-term recovery in a residential environment.

Prior to being contacted by McNaughton & Gunn, the staff at Dawn Farm was not familiar with World Book Night and did research to learn more about it.

The organization was thrilled to be the recipient of several copies of the following titles: Friday Night Lights, The Kite Runner, The Poisonwood Bible and Zeitoun. The staff encourages residents to read and are always looking for good books.

McNaughton & Gunn has worked with Dawn Farm several years on Day of Caring projects. We were elated to be able to donate these books and hope the residents enjoy the reading. Shown here is Megan Rodgers, one of the staff members at Dawn Farm.

WBN 2012 – Lovely Bones Appears in Brooklyn

Betty Hite from the McNaughton & Gunn Human Resources Team and her daughter Samantha and friends, chose the village of Brooklyn, MI as their home page for World Book Night. They chose three venues at which to position themselves. The first was Pamida, a general merchandise store, followed by Village Creamery, an ice cream shop and finally Jan’s Dance Studio.

Handing out their book choice, The Lovely Bones, to patrons and passers-by, the group was pleased with the positive reception and appreciation the recipients gave them.

World Book Night 2012

World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread the love of reading and books. It was held in the U.S. as well as the U.K. on April 23, 2012.

Tens of thousands of people went out into their communities to distribute free World Book Night paperbacks. World Book Night books are specially-produced, not-for-resale paperbacks chosen from a very, very long list by independent bookstore owners, B&N buyers and librarians. 30 books made the final list from which each volunteer book giver was able to choose.

The idea was to engage or re-engage adults in reading. Six McNaughton & Gunn team members went out into their local communities to give away books. Their stories will follow.

2011 NBCC Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to Copper Canyon Press and Lookout Books for winning the National Book Critics Circle Award (NBCC) for Poetry and Fiction respectively. The NBCC recognizes outstanding writing and promotes literature and reading. The annual award honors the best literature published in English in six categories—autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

Book Tower Honoring Lincoln to Open This Month

A three story book tower consisting of around 6500 books is being erected in the lobby of the Ford’s Theatre Center for Education and Leadership. All of the books are written about Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States.
