Proofs

We recommend text and cover proofs, especially for first-run titles. A proof exhibits what your final product will look like. This phase in the creation of your title is critical for any questions or concerns you may have. It is essential that you carefully review the output as it will help ensure your satisfaction with the final product.

Furthermore, in order to maintain the schedule of your title, special attention must be given to proofs. Please review and return them  in a timely manner.

Types of Proofs

Customers have a choice of receiving a hard or soft proof for both text and covers.

Text: Hard proofs are printed on paper similar to the final book and are trimmed to size and bound with a blank cover. Customers should take care in reviewing proofs to make sure everything looks the way it should. Hard proofs can be advantageous as they are a tactile representation of the final product and show how elements such as the layout and margins look. However, there are shipping costs and added time associated with this process.

Soft proofs are an electronic file that is sent to customers. Though a time and money saver, they do not represent the final product in a physical sense.

Cover: Hard proofs show a close representation of the placement and color of the final cover. As with hard proofs for text, there is added time and shipping costs involved in Cover Proofs.

Soft proofs are also available and sent electronically. They are For Position Only (FPO), not color match. They are quick and inexpensive, but a trade off for color matching.

Corrections
We encourage our customers to have their files set up appropriately and are happy to assist with any questions before the job comes to us. However, there are occasions when technical assistance is needed while the job is in the preflight stage. When problems such as correcting halftone densities, fixing hairlines, and creating or adjusting master pages arise, your Preflight Specialist or Account Representative will contact you.

Options for Corrections
You may opt to fix any errors and then send us new files or we do offer the service of simple type corrections at the proof stage for a fee. To ensure that proper corrections are made, please clearly mark all changes on the proof as well as provide a summary of changes in a separate document and return them to us. Please contact your Account Representative for specific cost information.
